FAQ

While both provide 24-hour support, the focus of the care is the primary difference.

  • Memory Care: Designed specifically for people with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The environment is secured to prevent wandering, and the staff is specially trained in communication and behavioral techniques. The goal is to provide a high quality of life through cognitive engagement and a structured routine.

Skilled Nursing: This is a clinical, medical setting. It is for residents who have complex medical needs, such as wound care, ventilators, or those who are bedridden and require frequent nursing interventions.

Resistance to bathing typically emerges during the middle stage (moderate dementia) and is rarely a matter of being difficult. As the brain changes, a senior may experience a genuine fear of the sound or sensation of rushing water, or they may become overwhelmed by the multistep process of undressing and washing.

Sensory factors also play a major role, as a once-familiar bathroom can suddenly feel too cold, too loud, or disorientingly bright, turning a routine task into a source of significant anxiety.

Even with the best intentions, certain phrases can unintentionally cause confusion, frustration, or even pain for a senior experiencing cognitive decline. Here are just a few of the phrases you should avoid

  • “Don’t you remember?”
  • “I just told you that.”
  • “Do you know who I am?”
  • “That’s not your home.”
  • “Hurry up.”
  • “You’re wrong.”
